Self-Care Interview with Kaycee Rose-Marie

Self-Care Interview with Kaycee Rose-Marie

" Self-care is honestly everything to me, it is about putting yourself and your health first. "

Kaycee is a YouTube creator and a sustainable, health and wellness blogger. She believes in living a sustainable life with a minimalistic mindset. She thinks, it is extremely important to take care of ourselves as well as the environment which surrounds us.

What does self-care mean to you?

Self-care is honestly everything to me, it is about putting yourself and your health first. By allowing yourself to take time for you and your needs, it gives you the rest and energy that your mind and body crave, which can be extremely rejuvenating!

Self-care can range from a simple face mask to a full body workout routine, it all just depends on what suits that particular person. It’s also about taking time for you to work on your mind, soul and body.

Has your perception of self-care changed, particularly with the events
of last year?

In fact, they have. I have noticed that since losing my job and building my own career it has been harder trying to fit in some time for some self-care, even though I see as a priority. As my routines have gotten better and I’ve become more organised with what I am doing now, every day, even if only for an hour I give myself that time for me. But I won’t necessarily say my perception has changed overall, as self-care I feel is something, we need to make time for.

What are some of the misconceptions around self-care?

Personally, most of the misconceptions are that you need to do more than expected. Each individual has their own personal goals, some who want to strive to either lose weight or those who just want to keep healthy. Each individual care routine is tailored to a person’s individual needs... so there is no right or wrong way to go about it. As long as you are moving forward and taking time for you in whatever means and ways.

What are some of your favourite self-caring activities and routines?

Routines

•I love my morning routine which includes a cup of green tea, my skin care routine alongside a nice warm shower and a bit of music to get me ready for the day.

•I enjoy going outside every day for a minimum of 30 minutes for a nice walk, as working from home constantly, the outdoors is a fantastic way to reset.

•Another favourite is to make sure I make a Green smoothly every morning which is full of fibre, nutrients, vitamins and just packed full of goodness.

Self-care Activities

•When it comes to self-care activities, I like to work out alternate days to keep my body healthy as well as my mind.

•I love stretching as that is extremely good for the body especially when we are all cooped up inside everyday.

•I try to take small regular breaks including time off screens as I feel it is extremely important for mental health. Unfortunately, I suffer with horrendous migraines so taking time off screens helps me reduce the change of getting one, along with wearing my blue light glasses.

•Drinking plenty of fluids is always important throughout the day. Mine normally includes a lot of organic green tea as that is my favourite.

•Sometimes I even like to randomly have a nice bath with a cheeky face mask.

How do you make sure you’re regularly prioritising self-care?

Being the person I am, I love sticking to a routine. I find that a lot of the routines I have made myself have now become a part of my life, just like a habit, as I do them so often. My advice to anyone who doesn’t focus on self-care would be to plan those days or hours at specific times just to get started. As when you start doing things for yourself daily, they become part of your routine and become a healthy habit that you don’t even need to think about.

Why is it so important to keep going even when you’re feeling better
in yourself?

I feel it is extremely important to keep going especially if you are feeling better in
yourself. Self-care is a continues journey, sometimes we don’t feel like we’re up for some of the things that we may have originally set out to do, and that’s ok.

Self-care can change every single day; you’ve just got to find out what suits you best. If you have planned to do a workout and your just not up for it that day then reschedule for yourself, if your body needs rest and is drained, listen to it!

Our bodies are so powerful and tell us so many different things. You’ve just got to make sure you can tell the difference between what you’re telling yourself and what your body is telling you! Remember this is all for you! Would you give up on a friend? Of course not, so why give up on yourself!

There are so many amazing benefits to self-care and by suddenly stopping the routines that you have already put in place just because you feel better, is not the answer. By doing so you could in fact have a negative impact on your mental and physical health. If your body is loving what you’re doing right now and you feel great, don’t stop, keep going! Always listen to your body and treat it with care. We only have one, and it is important that we keep moving forward for ourselves!
